A lakeside memorial where Southern Song history is carried through courtyards, cypresses and stone.

Detail from the Hangzhou.travel handscroll
Yue Fei Temple was first built in 1221 beside West Lake to commemorate Yue Fei, the renowned Southern Song general who lived from 1103 to 1142.
The complex preserves a powerful strand of Hangzhou’s identity as the Southern Song capital. Its memorial halls and tomb garden place national memory inside the gentler landscape of the lake.
