Feilai Peak
Limestone, grottoes and Buddhist carvings gather in the shaded valley opposite Lingyin Temple.

Detail from the Hangzhou.travel handscroll
Feilai Peak rises directly across from Lingyin Temple. Its weathered limestone caves and narrow ravines create an unusually intimate mountain landscape, cooled by forest and spring water.
Hundreds of Buddhist carvings were cut into the cliffs and grottoes over several centuries. The meeting of sculpture, rock and vegetation turns the approach to Lingyin into a continuous sacred landscape.
